About Meribel
History of Meribel
The Meribel ski resort was born following a vist in 1936 by a young British Officer called Peter Lindsay who came to ski one of the 12 famous runs in the area. Such was his enjoyment of this particlar mountain region and the extraordinary skiing he had experienced, that he later returned and purchased the land that is known today as Meribel. Situated at the heart of the the Three Valleys ski area, Meribel provides an excellent location with 600km of well linked and varied pistes to tempt skiers and snowboardes of every level. Intermediates benefit from a vast choice of red and blue tree lined runs within Meribel and, with the plentiful slopes of Courchevel to the east and Val Thorens to the west, the possiblilies are impressive. Those new to skis have the wide and gentle specialist beginner area within Meribel Motteret, situated at 1750m, at their disposal. The more advanced skier should head for the thrilling and legengary Les Bosses black run which is certain to be an exhilirating experience, or try the off piste at the Mont Vallo face above Meribel Motteret.

Activities in Meribel
Freestlying snowboarding enthusiasts have two local parks within Meribel, one to British Championships standard, with two pipes to enjoy, and there are three further snowparks within the three valleys area. Freeriders have an immense area of maintained pistes as well as powder to explore, and they should certainly experience the long red runs into Morraret. There are plenty of opportunities for cross country skiing, heli skiing and snow shoeing should you tire of skis or snowboards. Other popular winter past times at Meribel include paragliding which is a breathtaking way to view the mountain scenery, or you can explore the landscape on a snow mobile which is equally thrilling. The ski school facilities are first class with morning, afternoon or all day sessions available for children and beginners with qualified instructors on hand to guide you through the day's activities. For the evening hours, after you have wined and dined, Meribel has a cinema, indoor bowling and a casino to while away the hours.
