History of Chatel

The village of Chatel is a traditional, longstanding farming community which is proud of its agricultural history. Local farm fresh produce can still be purchased from some stores, and the chalet balcony railings are adorned with beautiful flowers and animal scenes, skillfully carved by local master carpenters. These intricate pictoral details certainly bring the villages history to life. Set within the extensive Portes du Soleil ski area, Chatel has become an important and popular ski resort providing an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding mountains. With its tranquil mountain pastures, traditional buildings and picturesque forests, Chatel is a great value ski holiday destination with a friendly French feel.

The attractive timber clad chalet accommodation mingle unobtrusively with the beautiful landscape and are much in keeping with the tradition of this old Savoyard village. There is also the Club des Piou Piou and the Jardin des Pitchounes to aid their discovery of the mountain slopes.

And with over 800KM of beautiful walking terrain, there are endless possibilities for those passionate about hiking. Chatel can also offer paragliding, horse riding, white water rafting and kayaking.
